bmusic Newsletter No.245 November 20th - November 26th 2006 Trawling the internet one does have a habit of getting lost in trivial facts if one stumbles across them. Here's a few I thought might be worth sharing, and possibly leading you on a Google path of time wasting for the next little while! Indian singer Sripathi Panditaradhyula Balasubrahmanyam, S.P.B. to his mates, holds the Guinness Record for recording the most songs, over 39,000 of them in 40-odd years! He has performed these in five languages, once recording 21 songs in Kannada in 12 hours, 19 songs in Tamil in a day, and 16 in Hindi in a day. Fiona Apple's 1999 release holds the record for the longest album title, brace yourself: Last year Kurt Cobain's estate's earnings overtook that of The King, Elvis Presley, by nearly AUD$10 million, propelling him into top spot in the dead celebrities earning list. Much of this was due to Courtney Love selling a one-quarter stake in his back catalogue. Elvis had topped the list for the past four years after the "A Little Less Conversation" remix renewed interest and sparked a whole new slew of merchandising and releases. Liberace, who himself received a scholarship to the Milwaukee Conservatory of Music in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, set up the Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts in 1976, awarding it's first scholarships in 1980. Liberace oversaw such scholarships until his death seventeen years later. The Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts has awarded more than US$5 million in scholarship grants to more than 2200 students at over 110 colleges and universities. Bjork's pet goldfish appears in the video "Epic" by Faith No More. If you've never visited the Smoking Gun's collection of artist riders and you have a few hours to kill, you absolutely must check it out at www.thesmokinggun.com/backstagetour/index.html. Our good friend rock journo and ace guitar slinger Joe Matera has some goodies to giveaway this month. During November you could win a Journey pack (albums & t-shirt),http://publish.vx.roo.com/undercoverhdau/portal/ copies of Dave Hunter's new book, Interactive Guitar Bible and 10CC Greatest Hits packages! Go to www.joematera.com and click on Interviews & Reviews for details on how to enter. A repeat Where Are They Now? this week, Christmas is coming thick and fast and really taking up a lot of our time here at bmusic, not to mention a particularly stubborn PA install that finally reached completion this week after many, many hours on site. Hopefully with that install out the way we can get a new Where Are They Now? out next week, but with Christmas looming, no promises. Regulars including Feature Article, The Week Ahead in Music History, Featured Artist and more are all inside Issue 245 of the bmusic Newsletter as well as the debut of our Featured Guitar section, I hope you enjoy those as we bring them to you from time to time.
